Every now and then Nina stops to lecture for a moment or two. On paper I’m sure this is a great idea, and even in my head it kinda works. Unfortunately, when she goes from moaning like she’s completely into it and then starts lecturing like she’s completely into that, much of the chemistry of the scene died for me. Nina’s comments of “Don’t forget, we’re professionals” also helped to kill most of the heat of the scene for me, and by the end of the scene I found myself almost completely uninterested in it due to the length and the chemistry being killed for me. It’s really too bad because with a few minor tweaks I think this scene could have worked very well for me.

Scene 2 - Mika Tan, Shy Love, and Alec Knight

Nina Hartley’s Guide to Threesomes: Two Girls and a Guy is a good instructional release. Nina and Nicole cover some decent information at the start, but it often feels like a lecture rather than somebody talking about something they’re passionate about like Nina has in many of her other instructional releases. I think part of this is due to the format of the lecture, as the book of ‘viewer mail’ came off a bit hokey and made it look like Nina was reading off her lines. Sadly, her sex scene came off much the same way for me and left me bored as heck. Thankfully Mika Tan, Shy Love, and Alec Knight (no relation) were along for the ride as they brought the entire release up with a fantastic scene that’s full of passion and playfulness. In the end, I think the main problem with this release is that it seems stretched too far. The movie lasts almost an hour and a half, and is basically wrapped around a fifteen minute lecture. I think if this release would have been combined with Nina Hartley’s Guide to Threesomes: Two Guys and a Girl and Nina would have stuck with one scene for the guys and then let Mika and Shy handle the two girls part of it with each part lasting about an hour, things would have come off much better. Nina Hartley’s Guide to Threesomes: Two Girls and a Guy has some decent information, but I think it’s stretched a little too far.

The behind the scenes featurette lasts a whopping thirty six minutes, and is shared between both this release and Nina Hartley’s Guide to Threesomes: Two Guys and a Girl. Nina starts things out talking about how long she’s been doing instructional movies as well as being a little disheartened that so many people still need her guides thirty years after the sexual revolution. Randy talks about some of the things that can go wrong between guys on a threeway shoot before Julian talks about not caring for threeway scenes. Violet is next, who talks about Burning Man and having both a husband and boyfriend. Evan Stone follows up Violet with a few wardrobe problems before Nicole Sheridan talks about how picky she is with guys and threesomes.
